GET STUDENTS BACKIN SCHOOL (Victoria students speak up)

This Tuesday willbe 1 week from when we were scheduled to go back to school as students in BC. Iam a grade 12 student in BC and as the days go on and on it becomes moreapparent to me, and what seems like all my peers, that we as students are the3rd party in this argument and yet seem to have no voice in the matter. ITSTIME TO SPEAK UP. ITS TIME TO SHOW THIS MATTERS TO YOU. At this point it's notabout who is right or wrong, whether BCTF is the one at fault or Christy Clark, its about coming together to get us back in the classroom and LEARNING. Themore days that tick by the more at stake our future becomes, especially asgrade 12 students. Soon it will be time to start applying for University,Scholarships, and getting enough credits to graduate. Courses like pre-calculus12 are not going to be easy to catch up on and Universities out of province, oreven country, may not sympathize when you are not ready to apply on time.

THIS COMING TUESDAY @12-2PM JOIN YOUR PEERS ONTHE BC LEGISLATIVE BUILDING STEPS IN VICTORIA BC. TO GET THE MESSAGE ACROSSTHAT WE NEED TO GET BACK IN THE CLASSROOM AND STUDENTS HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY.

12-2pm. Bring signs, bring your voice, bringyour opinions, tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your cousins and tellyour siblings.

BE THERE AND TELL ALL ADULTS YOU DESERVE ANDDEMAND AN EDUCATION.

News from Times Colonist

It’s time to get schools up and running.        That was the clear message at a rally at the legislature Tuesday, where hundreds of students gathered to voice their concerns about the ongoing teachers’ strike. The event was organized by Erinne Paisley, a Grade 12 student from Reynolds Secondary.        The 17-year-old and others called on the Labour Relations Board to declare education an essential service so students can return to school as soon as possible. School was scheduled to start Sept. 2, but members of the B.C. Teachers’ Federation have been on a full-scale strike since June 17.         “I think that the lessons being taught through the dispute are negative ones,” Paisley said. “It’s not being handled in a time-efficient manner, obviously.         “This dispute has turned into a war and it’s killing our education.”
Students have every reason to speak out, Paisley said. “This is literally our future.”         Liam Clark, who is supposed to be starting Grade 9 at Victoria High School, said the public officials representing students aren’t getting the job done.         “It’s an embarrassment to our province. It’s a giant impasse. It’s uncertainty and it shouldn’t be happening in Canada.”         David Underhill, a Grade 11 student at Reynolds, said students are being held hostage by the dispute.         “In the midst of arguing with each other, it’s painfully clear that both the government and the BCTF have forgotten about the students in this dispute,” he said. “We still need an education regardless of any dispute that is going on.         “We are at the mercy of their debate. And so while the debate is frozen, so are we.” - See more at: http://www.timescolonist.com/new ... thash.VjKPwU2y.dpuf
