Central Island - Summer Student
Full Time 35 hours per week
12 week term (June to August 2009)
$14/hour
Based out of the Nanaimo office, this position will mainly provide support to the Central Island Health Equipment Loan Program locations in the areas of customer service and volunteer support. This position will also provide limited support in the areas of fundraising and community development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide customer service and volunteer support to the Health Equipment Loan Program which will include but is not limited to; matching client equipment requests to appropriate loan inventory, submit request for delivery, installation or pick up of medical equipment to appropriate personnel, upon return of equipment ensure correct processing into inventory, provide appropriate referral information as requested, assist with orientation and training of customer service volunteers and provide guidance and support to volunteers
Provide support to other Red Cross programs as required
Assist with coordination and logistics of program related events specifically the Wal-Mart summer fundraising campaign
Perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:  

applicant must have been registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year and intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year
post secondary education or courses in the health care field would be an asset
familiarity with health equipment is an asset
excellent computer skills are essential
experience in not-for-profit sector working with volunteers
experience in administrative support and volunteer management
experience working in customer service is an asset
experience working with a diverse population and an understanding of cultural issues
accustomed to working in a fast paced environment and can effectively manage changing work loads
able to identify, analyze and resolve problems
valid BC Drivers’ license required
valid First Aid Certification or willingness to take training
the successful candidate must submit to a criminal record check
