BC Transit coordinates the delivery of safe, reliable, cost-efficient and market-focused transit services in BC
outside of the Greater Vancouver region. Working in partnership with local governments and private companies,
BC Transit staff provide direct services in fleet acquisition and management, contract administration, transit
planning, marketing and financial services for transit systems. BC Transit is a provincial crown corporation.
This position is based in Victoria. Located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Victoria (regional population
330,000) is the capital of British Columbia and a community of choice for many, due to our temperate climate,
natural beauty and diverse economic opportunities. Victoria is an international resort destination and our
transportation network includes airport, helicopter and seaplane services, buses, ferry, cruise ship and passenger
train service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Senior Planner Forecasting & Monitoring, the GIS Analyst undertakes research projects and
provides technical and administrative support to transportation and transit planning functions using database
packages and the Geographic Information System (GIS). Facilitates data exchange with other agencies, and
assists in the design and implementation of GIS improvements and enterprise GIS database standards. Works
with planning and engineering staff on GIS and data issues related to transportation modeling. Analyzes and
researches trends related to planning issues, demographics, employment and travel behavior. Prepares reports
on research and analysis projects. Utilizes GIS software to prepare a variety of supporting maps for various
meetings and published documents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree in transportation planning, urban planning, geography or related field, with emphasis on survey
research techniques, demography, statistics, analytical techniques, transportation systems and planning, and
geographical information systems.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Minimum two (2) years previous experience in transportation planning and GIS, together with sound knowledge of
computer technology and programming with GIS software and its relevant application and the ability to perform
detailed analytical and research tasks.
BC TRANSIT OFFERS:
Position evaluation: Salary Group 9 (COPE Union), with a starting salary range of $4,337 - $4,678 per month
