Surrey School District invites applications for the position of Multicultural Worker (Mandarin and Cantonese).

This is a temporary (1 year), full-time (32 hours per week) position. Basic requirements include written and verbal language proficiency in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of and experience with cross-cultural issues, in addition to helping Chinese students and families adjust to the Canadian school system.

In this role you will:

Audit and checks payrolls for accuracy and completeness
Prepare and submit Vendor payments to ensure all deadlines are met due to potentially large penalties and/or fines against the district
Prepare month end final summary to reconcile all transactions
Reconcile Vendor payments such as MSP, PBC, LTD, Union dues and deferred savings; isolates and investigate all discrepancies
Reconcile Payroll GL accounts
Balance overnight reports and investigates outstanding items
Run and/or create Crystal reports for the department, both ad hoc and ongoing
Assist Payroll Supervisor with special projects
Document and train staff on new procedures
Balance pay-to-date and reconcile with T4's; ongoing and at year-end
Develop and test changes to procedures and systems to improve efficiency

Qualifications:

Completion of grade 12 plus a Diploma in Accounting or Business Administration
Six years or more related experience
Must possess a valid Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation from The Canadian Payroll Association
Training and good working knowledge of report writing preferred (Crystal Reports)
Experience in Payroll processing and knowledge of how it relates to Accounting
Knowledge of payroll legislation and Canada Revenue Agency rules
Must be able to work independently with little direction, exercise a high level of initiative, problem solving and strong communication skills
Must be able to meet the following assessments: Excel (80+%) and pass the Payroll assessment.
